The absolute angle sensors of the MD42002x series from IPF are particularly cost-effective, extremely compact, and cover the entire 360° angular range. Notable features include simple, flexible mounting, a high degree of protection, and a wide operating temperature range.
As a result, these magnetic angle sensors operate with absolute reliability even under the most adverse environmental conditions.
The MD42002x consist of only two main components: a moving transducer (magnet) and a stationary sensor.
The separate installation of the transducer and sensor opens up many flexible mounting options for users, allowing the devices to be easily integrated into existing machine assemblies for a wide range of industrial control and regulation tasks, among other applications.
As absolute encoders, the angle sensors do not need to be calibrated or referenced before start-up.
The operating principle of the MD42002x is impressively simple: Relative to the sensor, the direction of the magnetic field lines in space changes depending on the rotational movement of the transducer.
The fixed sensor detects the changes in the direction of the magnetic field lines, which allows the exact position of the transducer relative to the sensor to be determined.
The corresponding angular position, derived via the entire range from 0° to 360°, is output by the MD420020 and in the MD420021 into an analog current signal (4…20 mA).
Both angle sensors are designed with a degree of protection IP67 for harsh industrial environments (resistant, e.g. to dirt, dust, moisture, or oils) and can be used at ambient temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +85 °C.
