Omron Industrial Automation has introduced the E3AS-HF long-range laser sensor to the South African market, offering cutting-edge Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology designed to meet the demands of local industries such as automotive, packaging, food & beverage, and logistics.
With a wide detection range of 5 cm to 6 metres, the E3AS-HF sets a new standard for reliable object detection, positioning, and distance measurement – even on challenging surfaces like black rubber or reflective packaging.
Its unique wide-angle detection range (±85°) allows for greater installation flexibility, helping South African manufacturers overcome space and alignment constraints.
Engineered for African Industry Conditions
Built with a rugged die-cast aluminium body and rated IP67/IP69K, the sensor can handle tough environments – including those exposed to dust, moisture, and high-pressure washdowns, making it ideal for local operations dealing with harsh conditions.
Its anti-fouling coating and compact design reduce maintenance and protect the sensor from oil and dirt buildup.

The E3AS-HF leverages three advanced sensing technologies:
- ToF (Time-of-Flight) detection ensures stable sensing regardless of object colour or surface type.
- High-speed sampling (10 billion times/sec) ensures accurate results and reduces interference from ambient conditions.
- APD-based high-sensitivity detection with real-time temperature compensation ensures accuracy in fluctuating environments.
With a fast 2ms response time, programmable I/O options including IO-Link, and an easy-to-read OLED display, the E3AS-HF allows for quick setup and smooth integration into existing systems.
Its built-in interference prevention also means multiple sensors can work near without causing disruptions.
